About Us

Upsidedownglobe.com is established by the Global Dragon (G&D) Cultural Exchange Centre. We hope to through
the upside down globe and this website to enhance studentˇ¦s creativity & lateral thinking.

Why is this globe turned upside-down? Has it been printed wrong? No, it hasn't. This is the southern hemisphere
version; that is, it shows the world from the southern hemisphere.

By convention, the globe is usually presented as the northern hemisphere version. The North is at the top of
the globe, while the South is at the bottom. This convention was born when the earliest European navigators
began using both the North Star and the magnetic compass to aid navigation. Therefore, it was seen as logical
that the globe should be mapped with North placed at the top. Nowadays, both versions of the globe are accepted
as being correct. We can imagine that it makes no difference when the globe is viewed from the universe.

Thinking about this shows us that we should not be too affected by conventional thinking patterns which may
restrict the way we consider matters. This example can inspire us to abandon old thought patterns and re-evaluate
our world from scratch.
